Management Team

Thomas M. Zarrella, President and CEO, has over twenty-five years of international operations experience spanning low to high tech manufacturing. At RWE Schott Solar, Mr. Zarrella successfully transitioned the company from an R&D operation to a full-scale manufacturer of photovoltaic products. Prior to RWE Schott Solar, Mr. Zarrella directed manufacturing and North American Operations for Instron Corporation of Canton, MA, a manufacturer of material testing equipment. He also served in corporate positions at several companies, including Revere Corporation (Allied Signal) of Wallingford, CT, Sprague Meter (Textron, Inc.) of Bridgeport, CT., and Sikorsky Aircraft (United Technologies) of Stratford, CT. Mr. Zarrella has a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Connecticut and an M.B.A. from the University of Bridgeport.
Robert W. Woodbury, Chief Financial Officer, brings to GT Solar Incorporated extensive experience in financial management with multi-national, publicly held companies in technology-based industries gained over the past twenty-five years.  Prior to joining the company, Mr. Woodbury served as Executive VP and CFO of Brooks Automation (NASDAQ: BRKS), an automation technologies manufacturer supplying the semiconductor capital equipment market.  While there, he led major initiatives to restructure the company, improve cash flow effectiveness, and improve operational efficiencies - efforts that included both acquisitions and divestitures.  Mr. Woodbury holds a B.A. in Economics from St. Anselm College and a M.B.A. degree from the University of Miami.
Edwin L. Lewis, Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary, joins GT Solar Incorporated with over thirty-five years of management and legal experience as general counsel with technology-based manufacturing companies.  Most recently, Mr. Lewis was Senior Vice President, General Counsel, and Secretary at Photronics, Inc., (NASDAQ: PLAB), a leading manufacturer of photomasks for the semiconductor and flat panel display industries, and previously held a similar position at American Science and Engineering, Inc. (NASDAQ: ASEI), an international manufacturer of X-ray detection systems for protection of ports, borders and high security government facilities.  Mr. Lewis is a member of the Legal Advisory Board of the National Federation of Independent Business Legal Foundation in Washington, D.C. and holds a Juris Doctor Degree from Temple University School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in international affairs from Lafayette College.
Dave Keck, Vice President, Polysilicon Division, has nearly twenty years experience in the Design, Operation, Sales/Marketing and Management of polysilicon facilities.  Previously, Mr. Keck worked at Lockheed Missiles and Space in California in the Thermal Engineering group, doing design work on military satellites and Hubble Space Telescope.   Mr. Keck then joined Advanced Silicon Materials (now REC) at their facility in Moses Lake, Washington.   At REC he worked in a wide variety of roles in including Production Engineering, as a Project Manager for two different expansions, Plant Manager for the Butte Facility, and ultimately as Vice President for Sales/Marketing.  During his tenure at REC he was awarded four patents for the equipment and processes related to polysilicon production.  He has degrees in Chemical Engineering from Montana State University-Bozeman and an M.B.A. from the University of Washington, and is licensed as a Professional Engineer.
Ron Jones, Vice President, Sales and Marketing, is an industry veteran with over thirty-five years of experience involving both functional and general management in the areas of sales, marketing, product and business development, business planning, M&A and project management.   Before joining GT Solar Incorporated, Mr. Jones was an independent consultant providing sales & marketing strategy consulting to global organizations.  Previously, he was Vice President of Sales at BP Solar.  During his tenure at BP Solar, the company achieved profitable sales growth, exceeding 45% per year. Prior to BP Solar, Mr. Jones was with PPG Industries where he held positions of increasing responsibility including Director, Marketing, Glass Group, and General Manager, Commercial Products which served the construction segment of the Flat Glass market. Mr. Jones holds a B.S from Allegheny College and an M.B.A from Duquesne University.
Peter Bihuniak, Vice President, Technology, has been involved in technical and general management roles in the renewable energy, glass, and inorganic materials industries for over thirty years. Previously, Mr. Bihuniak served as a technology consultant to global organizations. He also served as Vice President of Technology / CTO at BP Solar, where he was responsible for technology strategy leadership, commercialization of solar electric products and intellectual property strategy implementation. Before joining BP Solar, Mr. Bihuniak was Director of Research at Pilkington, Libby-Owens-Ford, overseeing global R&D activities. Previously, he was General Manager at PPG Industries and Director of Materials at General Electric and began his career at Owens Corning. Mr. Bihuniak holds a B.S in Ceramic Science from Rutgers University, an M.S. in Materials Science from the University of California Berkley and a Ph.D in Ceramics from Alfred University.
Rick Tattersfield, Vice President, Global Operations, comes to GT Solar Incorporated with two decades of experience in global operations, including Manufacturing, Quality, Logistics and Supply Chain. Previously, Mr. Tattersfield was the Corporate VP Quality and Technical Services in the Test and Measurement Division of ITW Corp, a $16b diversified manufacturing company. Mr. Tattersfield ensured the quality, compliance and integrity of all products and services produced worldwide. Mr. Tattersfield previously held roles as VP Operations for Instron’s Dynamic Systems division, VP Operations and joint General Manager of Instron Schenck Testing, and General Manager Amsler Otto Wolpert Werk GmbH. A graduate of the Royal Navy Engineering College (UK), Cranfield Institute of Technology (UK) and the MIT-Sloan School's Greater Boston Executive Education Program, Mr. Tattersfield is a member of ASQ, the National Society of Professional Engineers and the British Institute of Management.
Jeffrey Ford, General Manager, GT Solar (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., is currently located in Shanghai, China and has a career that has spanned thirty years. Mr. Ford previously was with SPX Corporation of Rochester, NY, and spent nine years with the Kayex division there and later served as its General Manager.  During his tenure at Kayex, a leading developer and manufacturer of semiconductor and photovoltaic single crystal growing furnaces, he also led a Sino-American joint venture in Hangzhou, China where he established equipment production lines serving worldwide customers.  His professional background is in finance. Mr. Ford received a BBA in Accounting from St. Bonaventure University and has also attended Executive Management Courses at Northwestern University related to Mergers and Acquisitions and Strategic Alliances.
Brian Logue, Vice President, Human Resources, has over twenty years of global human resources experience within the technology sector and has set, formulated and implemented human resource strategies and related initiatives worldwide.  Prior to joining GT Solar Incorporated, Mr. Logue was founder and principal of Highstreet Advisors, Inc. a human resources consulting firm providing strategic human resources solutions to emerging technology companies throughout the United States and Canada.  Prior to founding Highstreet Advisors, Mr. Logue was Vice President of Human Resources with Aspect Software and held human resources positions earlier in his career with Davox Corporation, Alcatel, and Texas Instruments.  Mr. Logue holds a B.S. in Business Management from Rhode Island College.
